PP here. The literal publisher of the NYT wrote that in retrospect, the data shows that liberal cities were wrong to keep schools closed for so long, and that the positive impact of masking in schools was grossly exaggerated. These are facts. There was no genocide of children or teachers of color when schools reopened, or when the mask mandate was lifted. The educational catastrophe unfolding for these same kids on the other hand is very real. Some of us understood this earlier than others.

I have two teacher aunts that retired early, uprooted their lives and fled to the woods, gave up on years of income and the children they served because of the fear that was stoked. I am simultaneously sad and ashamed for them.

COVID killed 1.1 million people. That is a fact. But over three years, 1,700 were Americans aged 0-18. We failed our children, full stop, because of these assinine policies and race to the bottom of the virtue signaling well. My family is vaccinated. I like Dr. Fauci. My first grader can now read. All of these things can be true while still acknowledging that liberals were wrong on COVID education policies.[/quote]
