This is not a "W" school thing; this is an American high school thing. As others have said, instagram accounts for DC high school are posting individual students with their college choice. This happened at my high school (out of state) - OP, have you not experienced this growing up???
Those IG accounts aren't run by the school though. Of course kids find out where others are going to school, some kids will be very open about it and splash it on their social media, etc. But OP is talking about a special day that is run by the school/PTA and that could be really unwelcoming for a segment of the school population. Sure, those kids might also feel hurt by the IG accounts or the general environment of people talking endlessly about college, and that's something they will need to figure out how to deal with. But why make it worse? Why make it official? I say this as someone who went to a very well-regarded college and whose child is very academically successful and we'll be able to afford send her wherever she wants. So it's not about saving my feelings or my kid's feelings -- it just seems obvious that this will cause issues for some kids and isn't really necessary.
