[/quote] No, we have the TSA because people got scared and over-reacted and were willing to give up their essential, Constitutionally protected rights in the name of possibly increased security. As for schools, we tried having on-campus police presence, and that failed miserably at preventing school shootings (look at the Douglas school shooting in Florida, for example, where the on-campus cop essentially did nothing during the entire event). As noted above, this (school shootings) is statistically unlikely to happen and is not really worth worrying about. If we really wanted to save the most lives per dollar, we would be investing in research on heart disease. Note that I am not trying to justify school shootings--just state that we have limited resources and that we should apply them in the most effective way possible. And we shouldn't create a culture of fear and make children afraid to go to school.[/quote]
