Wheaton College (MA) - generous merit, accepting campus, study abroad program on Bhutan College of Wooster - strong research + senior thesis program, good STEM departments, generous merit Others: Allegheny, Gettysburg, Dickinson, Muhlenberg, Kalamazoo, St. Olaf (math and music strengths), Denison, Mount Holyoke, Puget Sound.
Many of these are not "true safeties." And how many kids do you have?
Fair, maybe target-safeties? My point is that we identified these schools as generous merit providers earlier on and did demonstrate interest through visits but ultimately were quite confident that our kids would gain acceptance and receive scholarships, which they did, all upwards of 30K/yr. I included so many, because we did find many "safeties" and "targets" that we as a family and my children loved and also applied to several since we a) wanted options and b) were counting on merit aid to attend OOS private colleges. I was hoping that a list of more colleges would be helpful, even if they didn't all include details. Other safeties could include Chatham University, Duquesne, Washington & Jefferson, Albright, Ohio University, Miami U (OH), and Temple for some more PA/OH colleges. (Things have also changed over the years since my first went to college and Pitt was her in-state safety - 2020.)
