I’ll be the outlier here. I love clothes and dressing my kids brings me joy. I have two boys and a girl all under 5. I probably spend $1k per year on the boys (mostly for the older one since they younger one gets lots of hand me downs except for shoe) and another $1-1.5k on the girl. I know it’s dumb but we easily afford it and it makes me happy. I have a few friends who have the same taste and kids slightly younger than mine so pretty much everything gets continued use after my kids outgrow it.
You're only an outlier in that you know what you're spending. A lot of these other posts are totally unrealistic. I posted on the first page (9:39) and I work my butt off to keep the numbers that low. People saying prob $600 a year and listing places like Primary just have no idea what they're spending. Even if you're careful about shopping you'd prob still be in the 4 figures per year per kid if you're buying all new.
I believe that was me actually. I budget 150 per quarter on clothes and 75 per quarter on shoes although it may have to go up to 100 this year. That budget is also based on staying one size through a season. If he randomly grows that's off the table I track every expense. I only buy on sale and only a few primary items specifically their UPF shorts and tanks. I also tend to wait for 20 off 100 at target or when they do the sales. I can get 6-8 pairs of shorts or very thin pants (6-8 each) , 8 shirts (4-6each) and 2 sweater/zip ups for 100 or so. That's the spring cost usually and then summer I will get bathing suits, sleeveless tanks, etc. My son does not wear pajamas except when it's less than 30 degrees at night so we don't buy more than 2 for summer and 2 winter each. When Hanna Andersson has a sale they can go as low as 19 or 25. For fall I buy 6-8 joggers, a few shirts, a few long sleeve shirts, and sweaters plus rain coat/thin windbreaker/vest. Witber is boots and bigger jacket. But I also buy one size too big so it normally lasts 2 winters. Grandparents and family are usually good for 3-4 outfits per year.
