But like why would you want to be a part of a faith that says acting on your natural desires is sinful? I know they say that being gay isn't inherently sinful but living a full life as a gay person is considered wrong so why would you want to be a part of this faith?
I have all sorts of “natural desires” I’d like to act on but don’t because to do so would be immoral. I’d like to sport around on my spouse; I’d like to drink to excess; I’d like to punch people in the nose; I’d like to take nice things without paying for them. The ability to sublimate desire in favor of the will is what makes human beings more than barnyard animals.
If your religion told you that your heterosexual desires (even within marriage) were immoral and you had to be celibate your whole life, would you bow to that teaching? Could you live without sex?
You can see what fruit they bear. The fruit of heterosexual desire is family, children and the continuation of the Church. What is the fruit of homosexual desire?
What is the fruit of an infertile couple?
Yup. This right here is one of the reasons I'm now Episcopalian. DH and I aren't able to have biological kids. The teachings on marriage in the Catholic church are so incredibly harmful and hurtful to infertile couples (and of course to homosexual couples). When you combine the teaching that the proper fruit of a marriage is children with the church's near complete opposition to assistive reproductive technology, its a real malicious message infertile couples hear.
People only talk about the Catholic Church labeling LGBTQ people as “disordered” but they also label infertile people as “disordered”. Which is cray, cray.
Its less crazy when you realize how much infertility is self-inflicted. So many people take hormonal birth-control for 20+ years, have double digit partners and try to have their first kid at 35+. Then they get mad at God.
FU. Most people I know with infertility including myself “waited” until we met our future spouse and committed to them. I started TTC at age 29, a year after getting married. It took 8 years to conceive. My story is not unique.
You do realize that was over a decade after your peak fertility right? I'm going to assume there was a long period of hormonal birth control in there as well. Despite all of the sex "education" out there, the basics of reproduction continue to mystify people.
Well you assume wrong. You know what they say about people who assume. And are you saying women should have babies at age 19 before they are married?
Were you commanded to go forth and? A. Attend college B. Work your way up the corporate ladder C. Multiply
Jesus actually said getting married is for the weak and immoral. Yes, singleness is better than marriage, But because of the temptation to sexual immorality the 2nd best option is marriage. Corinthians 7 So then he who marries his betrothed does well, and he who refrains from marriage will do even better.
I'm imposing a penance for this post. Read a Gospel (Mark is shortest and most accessible), Acts and then re-read 1st Corinthians. This will introduce you to Jesus, Paul and many of the other names you should know. Tying it back to the topic at hand, this aversion to marriage is what has allowed the Lavender Mafia to take over the Catholic Church. I don't see a path back to sanity without married priests.
