I only shook the hands and exchanged a few words with McCain and Warren, but this was my perception as well. It is a reminder that somebody can be wonderful in person but do terrible things on a broad scale, and be awful in person but do good work for society. [/quote]
 
So true--I have met George W Bush several times through my former job in formal and candid settings and he is the nicest man ever, even though I thought he was the devil politically (and these were the days before Trump). Just an all around nice guy who genuinely seemed to care about the people he was meeting. I can see why he got along with the Obamas even though they're on different ends of the political spectrum.
