Also, keep in mind that there are no bad school pyramids in Fairfax County, where the schools are all at least good. Some high schools send more kids to more competitive colleges and universities, but a motivated and talented individual with engaged and supportive parents can do well from any County high school.
This is BS. Some of the worst school pyramids in the DC area (aside from PGCPS) are in Fairfax County. OP, pyramids you will want to avoid are Falls Church, Edison, Westfield, Herndon, South Lakes, Mount Vernon, Lee, West Potomac, Justice, Hayfield. Those schools are almost entirely reliant on school lunch rations, and are heavy minority, mostly from Latin America. I honestly wouldn’t recommend any high school in FCPS, Langley is the bottom line but it is rapidly declining and will get zoned with some kids from Tyson’s, which will ruin its composition.
Op here this is response I was looking for. A quick zillow search shows houses under 600k. I was interested in how the schools compared to MD. I work from home and live in MD. I was considering Silver Spring or Odenton. I heard good things about AAP and was wondering if it was worth looking in Fairfax. NOT A TROLL I was at the zoo with kids and not checking DCUM. Thank you for all the responses
OP, take that post with a grain of salt. The fact that a school has a lot of minority kids is not the awful thing PP thinks it is. We are a double Fed family and live in a quiet neighborhood of single family homes. My kid goes to South Lakes. He is in music, sports, gets good grades and has friends who are all different races and whose parents came from different countries. It is TOTALLY FINE. And I am by no means a bleeding heart lib. Does South Lakes have problems? Of course it does. All schools do. The so-called “good” high schools have plenty of their own problems and I’m not sure I’d want to trade for them.
I love when posters make their racism so blatant. I'm also in South Lakes pyramid and it's a great school, as is Carson Middle. I won't say which ES lest anyone who is afraid of non-whites pollute my lovely neighborhood
