MCPS is county government, not state. County offices were open today except for MCPS.

MCPS should have all days off approved by the Board of Education through the normal calendar approval process. Dr. McKnight is wasting tax dollars when employees have paid leave they should be using if they want time off. This is bizarre as you try to gaslight people who are concerned about both education for children and the use of taxpayer funds.  It absolutely is appropriate for all citizens to weigh in when they see waste and wasted opportunities.

How would working Friday be a waste of time for MCPS admin? I know at my school there are a ton of things that need to be done, particularly when staff and students are not at the school to interrupt them. The same should hold true for central office employees. There is a huge backlog of employee paperwork that needs to be processed (tuition reimbursement, COVID leave, etc.), curriculum implementation, initiate summer school program development, address the staffing shortage, etc. If they choose to take a personal day off, that’s fine, but getting more time off in addition to the extra time off last year feels like an enormous slap in the face to those of us that are deep in the trenches every day. It is a constant struggle to teach students, enter data, effectively plan and differentiate lessons, contact parents, and figure out to implement Leader in Me and the various other MCPS programs - not to mention that for most half days and instructional days we are stuck in mandatory pd.[/quote]
