What religious holiday is this? We are in California but already had 2 Jewish holidays plus a few other random no reason days off.
Indian
Oh ok! We don’t do those holidays in LA, but we have Juneteenth and all the Jewish holidays.
Juneteenth is a Federal Holiday now so most schools places have it off if they are still in session.
diwali isn't a federal holiday why is fcps using it
All school systems have days off that aren’t federal holidays. Were people complaining about the kids getting days off for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur? Personally, love these shortened weeks and random days off. DD is up at 5:30 for school, and we know that biologically, it’s not appropriate for teens to be up that early. These break days give her an opportunity to sleep in and take her time do all the things she otherwise doesn’t have time for.
Did you look at this board? Yes, people were complaining about it. It is unnecessary. Set them as O days so that people can miss the day without worrying about assignments and tests if they do miss the day. Most of my Jewish friends worked on those days. My Hindu friends who celebrate Diwali are all working today. There is no good reason for those days to be days off school. As someone who was raised Catholic, we went to school on holy days, to include Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, masses were set for 5 PM or later because of peoples work schedules and family schedules. Lots of Churches had services during lunch time for people who could go then. These are not days with high levels of absenteeism.
