Muslim, democrat and an immigrant here. I think Bill Maher is spot on. And if you're not muslim you have no right to comment on whether he is anti-muslim or not. We are not a monolith and don't need you to speak for us.
I'm also Muslim, and was a huge fan. I just think he's gotten old and he is an annoying atheist - the preachy kind and he does have a lot of opinions about Islam when he very clearly has not educated himself at all. Did I laugh at his "islam means peace- sure a piece of you over here, a piece of you over there!" bit, yes, I did. I just think he is old and out of touch, and he probably knows no observant Muslims and he has stupid old man opinions like thinking that people should use anglicized names b.c it makes life easier for you instead of embracing a more educated, globalist, informed and sophisticated ethos. He's like Hitchens- I remember cringing so hard when Hitchens addressed Mos Def as Mr. Definately, thats a racial micro aggression. They are all these old men who are living in this pre 2010s reality kowtowing to Anglo Saxon liberalism, its old and tired and we have evolved. he actually has a lot of the same prejudices that Trump has and is a product of the same culture more or less. John Stewart im a fan of- he is also old but he has evolved. people have to realize, white is no longer the default, you have to carry the weight of whiteness in the same way that POC carry stereotypes about their identities, bill maher is an a$$ and I find hetero men of his age with no steady relationship too be off, there is something wrong with them unless they are widowers. Straight, single men long past their forties are losers who haven't really experienced the full breadth of life, they are stunted and just.. off like bad fish. Something permanently puerile about a heterosexual man who chooses that for himself so late in life. cant bring himself to mature, to create and nurture a family or anyone, just hedonistic and.. puerile is the best word- raw, unformed, inexperienced, small minded, emotionally stunted. If yo are losing your hair and have never nurtured a lot time. commitment to anyone other than yourself- I don't he's kept spotted plant alive, you are missing out on the opportunities than make adults adults- on experiencing life and gathering wisdom but he pretends he is so wise. I think he started out pretty smart but his lack of life experience and stunted reality shows. He's the sort of person who eats the same meal at the sam eatable of the same restaurant for years on end, its end of life without having lived the messiness of the middle.
FWIW, Maher has been in a long term relationship with the same woman since 2014. He’s a comedian who tours throughout the year. A nomad. He was wise to avoid settling down knowing he spends his life on the road.
