Yes the shopping experience feels better…and I can get everything I need in one trip. I dont have time to shop at three different stores.. but it is expensive and .. boring. Great yogurts, produce and meat (I guess).. but terrible variety of frozen food, etc. So while I’ve tried several times to try other stores..like..TJ..TJ feels like a lot of frozen and processed food… so.. Im just a reluctant WF shopper. .
This. I'm no health nut but I could never understand the love for TJ, especially from someone like OP who is apparently complaining that her food from WF was unhealthy. How does TJ's solve that problem?
OP: Actually my complaint was that Whole Foods — a store that has billed itself as, among other things, not selling GMO foods — sold something that was genetically modified. I never used the word “unhealthy “, although healthy food is definitely a goal. Here are Trader Joe’s standards: “Trader Joe's brand products contain NO artificial flavors, artificial preservatives, MSG, added trans fats, dairy ingredients from rBST sources or genetically modified ingredients. Trader Joe's brand products contain colors derived only from naturally available products” As to your question, though, Trader Joe’s has a good selection of dried fruit and nuts, nut butters, and decent cheese. They also have chocolate covered almonds that cost less than the ones that I bought at Whole Foods, and, presumably, conform to their stated standards. While I know that they have aisles of snacks and freezers full of prepared food, it’s quite possible to bypass those aisles. tldr: Trader Joe’s has their own version of the specific product that prompted my complaint.
Plenty of TJ frozen options are heathy. We buy the kibbeh balls. The ingredients are exactly the same as if I were to make myself: beef, onion, water, cracked bulgar wheat, salt, pepper, all spices, coriander, cumin, sunflower oil. Obviously they have a huge selection of frozen, prepared and snack foods and I don’t know the ingredients to all. But I do look at the ingredients for all the items I purchase and I find them to be just fine.
