Well it may just be that Michael heard flailing and yelling and flapping of wings, etc. coming from inside the house, and cautiously went inside the house, only to see that Kathleen was being attacked by an owl, but he was too frightened and afraid to do anything about it and instead ran back outside, back to the poolside, pretending he "didn't hear a thing." But it could possibly be because Mr Peterson was One Proud Leatherneck, a Semper Fi US Marine that he was embarrassed to admit he could not bring himself to do battle the attacking owl (and to be fair, he may not have had the proper training) and so he shrunk away to the poolside, pretending not to hear it. This would explain a lot. Think outside the box helps you pick the locks  :wink: [/quote]
