Downtown took 3-4 seasons to get to the level of cult popularity it has today.

Downton was hugely popular from the get-go. It turned Julian Fellowes into an overnight star, along with most of the cast. I'm sure it became even more popular as time went on, but not 3-4 seasons to hit its stride. The first season was a phenomenal success and launched it as a global phenomena. [/quote]

Downtown Abbey premiered worldwide in 2011. The rights to stream it on Amazon Prime wasn't even acquired until 2013 - in season 3. Until then it was strictly on PBS which no one watches. Try again.[/quote]

Um. The world isn't just the United States. Which too many Americans conveniently ignore.

I lived in the Middle East when Downton first premiered and it was hugely popular. That it came into the US a bit later (maybe, who knows?) doesn't mean the show was already popular and had a global following from the first year. It was an enormous success in Britain as it was a British TV show first and foremost.

And you also have to acknowledge the difference in timing. 2011 and 2021 are two very different technological eras. Prime and Netflix were smaller than they are now. If Bridgerton has an advantage it's having much bigger instant access than was ever possible in 2011.
