"The average GPA for applicants (3.9074) is slightly higher this year than it has been in the past five years. " "Economically disadvantaged students increased from 0.62% (2020-21) to 25.09%." "Students from historically underrepresented schools increased from 5.56% (2020-21) to 30.73%." "In the last 10 years, this is the first time all FCPS middle schools had students who were accepted into TJ. The GPA for the class of 2025 is not comparable to the GPA for any other class. The class of 2025 had virtual learning starting in March of 7th grade. This meant As for almost everyone for that semester. Then, the first half of 8th grade was also entirely virtual with FCPS giving tons of "grace," meaning that kids who showed up and put in a modicum of effort got As. On top of that, it was exceptionally easy for kids to cheat. The same kids "earning" 3.9s in covid times might have only earned 3.5s or lower in real school. On top of that, there's no evidence that 25.09% of the class of 2025 is actually economically disadvantaged. That percentage of the kids checked the box for receiving free meals, but technically anyone could truthfully check the box.
I've heard they're the strongest class in decades.
