So I just started watching this show and was surprised there isn’t more of a discussion here. I actually was so disturbed by the first episode that i abandoned it and after seeing it hyped all over, returned a few weeks later. The extremity and promiscuity of the sex, the hard drugs, and violence is shocking to begin with and even more so to see it played out in a teenage population. This could not have been more different from my high school experience, and I wondered who this show is actually intended for as I would sooner cancel HBO than let my teenager watch this. I suppose for twenty and thirty somethings +? Anyway, once I got past the initial shock of it, most of the storylines pulled me in. Season 2 seems a bit more palatable so far but only a couple of episodes in. The acting is excellent, as usual for hbo.
The scene in the gay bar between the young Cal and his best friend in the 90’s was one of the most beautiful scenes I have ever seen on TV. I am a Gen Xer and was never a huge INXS fan until I saw that scene. Wow.
Yes I love cal, minus the whole raping transexual children….I guess I mean I love the actor. What was up with Jules stealing that white claw, almost dying for it, leaving rue on the highway then being shocked to learn rue does drugs.
Cals a jerk who messed up his kid badly, and is also a pedophile. Have sympathy for anyone who feels they have to hide their sexuality but that’s far as my sympathy goes for him, and is really canceled out by his other behavior. Nate is a total mystery to me. What is going on in that boys mind?
