The wife is most culpable by far; she left Dr. Schlissel without a wife to take care of all the First Lady responsibilities. Imagine coming home from a day of meetings over heavy University issues that need the President’s attention, and THEN attending development functions until 10:00 PM. You get home about 10:30 PM, call your PACIFIC-TIME wife, and she says she can’t talk because she’s leading her team in preparations for going to trial NEXT week. Rinse and repeat.

So a man who has become the University President at one of the most esteemed institutions of higher education in the United States, a man who has earned the adulation of so many, is supposed to sit at home with his Stouffer’s Lean Cuisine spaghetti watching Colbert each night to unwind? Ridiculous.

The subordinate recognized Dr. Schlissel was lonely and figured out how to be everything his West Coast attorney wife wasn’t providing. And you know what? Dr. Schlissel EARNED the right to build a personal relationship with this woman. And for all the revenue he generated and leadership he devoted to the University, he had every right to use his University resources to make himself happy. He was already booking a suite for his University trips; what did it matter if the woman stayed with him? If she was taking notes in meetings and otherwise boosting Dr. Schlissel’s productivity in India, so what if she flew out first class with him and they had a layover in Paris. What, they’re supposed to sit in DeGaulle and munch Au Bon Pain while waiting for the next leg to New Delhi?

Don’t be silly. We forget that at a certain level, executives and leaders have earned rights and privileges that most don’t. Indeed most places recognize this, and they either promote the paramour or they give her a generous parachute. It’s just good business. But “MeToo” upended this mutually beneficial system. Ultimately it’s the organization itself that suffers.[/quote].
