I just read in the POst that the United States is poised to surpass its record for covid-19 hospitalizations as soon as Tuesday, with no end in sight to skyrocketing case loads, falling staff levels and the struggles of a medical system trying to provide care amid an unprecedented surge of the coronavirus. This stay open at all costs doesn't seem to be working. :/
That is correct, re: hospitilizations. But honestly, after 2 years, you have to be able to provide evidence that closing schools would result in reductions in hospitalizations. Now that we know the damage of remote instruction, the "well, why not try it and just see if it works?" approach is not acceptable to most parents. If there was a belief that it was an effective tool to reduce spread, school closure would have more support. But people know that if we close schools, we'll just have closed schools & packed hospitals. It wont actually do anything to help
+1. I'm someone who has changed my mind on virtual schooling, because I've watched how it's played out. Kids suffer and the curve doesn't flatten. At this point shutting down schools is just "doing something" for it's own sake. It's a pointless sacrifice.
