As in, is this a mid-life crisis thing? We're in our mid 40s, our youngest will be going to college next fall, so we don't really need two SUVs anymore. However, isn't this a bit odd for a 40-something white collar dad? To me, it looks like something a college boy would drive.
Nothing wrong whatsoever, Jeep Wranglers may not be the most practical of vehicles, but they can go places many other SUV’s and trucks can’t. IMHO the Rubicon is an extravagance that many people feel they need only to realize that the $10k of performance factory upgrades will never be utilized as intended. Recommend DH look at the Willys Package, it’s termed the “Rubicon Light” package. Same suspension, and many of the same accessories for 1/3 the cost. For the money saved DH can have Quadratec or a local Offroad shop customize the vehicle to his liking. Purchased our Wrangler Unlimited in 2015 and haven’t regretted it one bit. Our other car is a Subaru Outback, but the Wrangler is more fun to drive. It’s been fun to customize; 3” lift, oversized tires, custom parts and pieces. Best part of the Wrangler is the ability to lose the top and doors and drive legally. What vehicle can you do that in? Maybe your husband has plans to tow this Jeep Wrangler behind the family motorhome in the future. Reasons for purchase of such a vehicle are endless. I tell people it’s not about the MPG, but the smiles per mile. p.s. with a Wrangler in the driveway, birthday and Christmas shopping for DH will be easy at Quadratec.com
Actually the rubicon features on the JL are worth getting as some the after market equivilent just isn't equal. And, not everyone wants to lift it. And, if you negotiated well, the price difference was a few thousand not $10K.
