It doesn't make them wrong, it's just different. Recognizing customs differ, I always offer to split the cost when invited to do something. If I'm inviting, I only do so if I'm willing to cover the entire cost and take no offense if, at least on the first couple occasions, my date doesn't offer to contribute. What I look for, though, is reciprocity. We either alternate paying or my date does something reciprocal. It's when there isn't reciprocity that I recognize it isn't a good match.
