+2 the really status-obsessed families I know in this area generally have 3 kids. It’s definitely a thing. Of course, I know plenty of families, even the majority of families, with 1 or 2 kids as well. But 3 kids means you met your husband/wife early enough in life and you were both healthy enough where 3 was even an option; it means you’re financially secure enough to afford child care and activities for 3 kids; it means you probably have a bigger house to accommodate everyone. This is so weird. Only on DCUM have I ever heard this. Most affluent families that I know have two or less. We families with three seem to have LESS disposable income so definitely not a status thing. I think that the only people that see “status” in kid # are perhaps those who are insecure about their own.
