You could tax the shit out of guns, I suppose. Make them crazy expensive. Our problem in DC is guns flowing in from Virginia. Really we just need to repeal the 2nd amendment.
It is really hard to legislate gun control because there are too many people with moderate to conservative views who believe that gun rights outweigh gun control issues and they don't want "slippery slope" issues. The above PP has the right idea...a tax. But the way to make it more pervasive is not to tax guns, but to tax ammunition. Put a heavy tax on ammunition, per bullet. If you add a tax of $5 per bullet, this gets closer to the desired effect. You are going to have less impact on low capacity hunting rifles and more of an impact on high capacity cartridges. We've been trying to legislate that higher capacity cartridges or weapons are the problem, but there has even been pushback on those. So tax it. Add $100 to the price of a cartridge of ammunition for a multi-round cartridge and see how willing they are to use those devices.
. First thing I do if I am a criminal with a gun … rob a Dick’s and steal a bunch of ammo. No taxes there. God you people are dumb. CRIMINALS use guns to rob, to threaten, and to kill others and criminals by definition don’t follow laws. So pass as many laws as you like. It won’t stop gun violence. At all. The only thing that might stop a criminal with a gun is a cop with a gun or a citizen with a gun or another criminal with a gun. But, sure preach about gun control from your safe, lily-white suburban enclave.
Here is my question: how are American criminals so brilliant? Why don’t criminals in UK, Japan, Germany have so many guns? Why don’t they need vigilante citizens with guns? Who do you think you are, Batman? This may be news to you but Batman hates guns too. We don’t want to live in a bubble, we want a similar quality of life as our peers in other countries. And that includes less gun violence.
You think that the differences with other countries (European (re: white) and Asian cited) are guns, when its actually the people. The people with guns are the problem, not the guns. So why do people here kill so many more than they do in your idealistic countries? Yes, you're going to say they kill more here because they have the better tool by which to kill. So you think criminals in those other countries are just lazy? Or, (put your thinking cap on) why do criminals use guns to shoot others so much more here? If we didn't have guns at all are you suggesting that our violent crime rate would be the same as other countries? Really? You believe that?
I’m not following the argument here. Is it that American criminals are more violent? YES Or that America has a greater number of violent criminals? YES Why would this be? THAT’S WHAT I ASKED YOU. There are violent criminals in every country, there are marginalized communities in every country, most countries have persecuted minorities? TRUE. What is the basis for this idea that American criminals are just more violent? THAT’S WHAT I ASKED YOU. Is the inverse true? Would they be murdering just as many people without guns? NO, IT WOULD BE HARDER TO KILL THATS TRUE Because I don’t think that is true. The little boy who was shot through his window would not have been murdered by any other object but a gun. TECHNICALLY HE WAS KILLED BY THE BULLET AND THE PERSON THAT FIRED THE GUN, NOT THE GUN ITSELF (BUT I AM BEING A STICKLER). IT IS LESS LIKELY THAT HE WOULD HAVE BEED KILLED BY ACCIDENT, BUT ACCIDENTS STILL HAPPEN ESPECIALLY WHEN DANGEROUS PEOPLE ARE AROUND. THINK ABOUT COLLATERAL DAMAGE FROM SUICIDE BOMBERS FOR EXAMPLE. Would there be so much of this death without guns? PROBABLY NOT, BUT GUNS ARE NOT THE ROOT CAUSE. PEOPLE ARE. WHY ARE MORE PEOPLE VIOLENT CRIMINALS IN THIS COUNTRY THEN THE EUROPEAN AND ASIAN COUNTRIES YOU CITED? TRY ANSWERING VS. ASKING MORE QUESTIONS THIS TIME.
See in line above. The bold is not yelling, it is simply to distinguish the responses.
