All those folks in the Blue Zones walk, that's all they do. They herd their sheep, they WALK to the market, the WALK to visit their friends etc. Common sense - of course walking is exercise, and carries a lot of other benefits as well including Vit D from the sunshine, fresh air, time to clear your mind which also lowers your blood pressure. Not everything has to be an Orange Theory class.
No, that's not all they do. People in the Blue Zones (and pre modernization) also do their own chores, clean their own houses, CARRY their own groceries home from the market, make all their own food from scratch, tend to their own gardens, etc. Walks to all errands may include lots of hills and stairs. Their cardio and strength training is built into their daily lifestyle, and to compare their walking to a suburbanite walking for an hour in their neighborhood... is completely different. But yes I agree, one should get outside daily if possible. But all walking is not remotely the same.
Did you not catch that I said "etc" ? I am from one of those Blue Zone areas....I know what daily life is like.
