A middle ground solution would allow for partial unemployment benefits. Get rehired but your boss only gives you 20 hours? Get 50% of the unemployment benefit. We need something that allows workers to go back part-time....but part-time doesn't pay the bills for most families. This also gives employers something breathing room, so they can more nimbly manage their costs as the economy re-opens.
I get what you're saying but STATE unemployment will still exist. Workers just won't get the extra $300 from the federal government on top. Essentially rendering it partial assistance.
Not really. It's still use or lose. If you work a few hours in a week, you get dropped from the roll for unemployment benefits, whether its state or federal monies. Your employer can promise you the world, but if you don't get the hours you can't pay your bills. Workers can be rational too. This is just punishing the poor and those who lost their jobs in the wake of the pandemic. It's medieval in its justification.
