My kid did Juniors and didn’t get much out of it. To be fair my child is on the very young side of the birth year. I thought the coerver coaches were fine. No issues with anyone yelling at the kids, but they weren’t particularly skilled at teaching the 6-7 year old set, in my opinion, either. Lots of the instruction went over most kids’ head. Like they would work on field position, only a small subset would seem to get it, then they’d move on to something else and not necessarily expect or reinforce what was just learned. I think if your child is particularly mature , able to listen, and driven then it is worthwhile — just to get so many extra touches at that age. There were a handful of kids who really improved. Mine would have better off sticking with Rec.
This is helpful. PP. Thanks. Curious what you are doing this year if you care to share, as I recall at tryouts we were told that all kids in juniors would be offered a spot on 1 of the mclean travel teams. We opted out of Juniors last year for our 1st, and based on the above, it does not sound like it would be a good fit for 2nd either next year.
MYS is 100% pay to play. They switched. If u do Juniors, you are guaranteed to get to pay the next year for travel. They take everyone and it actually hurts our club.
Can't be true
I think that the last two years they have taken absolutely everyone in the young ages. They obviously don't take everyone for ECNL --and kids come from all over to try out --but it seems that for the younger teams they don't have the numbers. I expect that, to some degree, that this is true in most clubs except a place like Arlington where the pool is enormous.
The rising ECNL team is coached by Haytham … he'll last about 1-2 years more before he gets the hook . . . Go to BRYC if you want to get away from those girls coaches. Mclean is a turd swirling
And BRYC isn’t?
BRYC is on a downward trajectory. Aside from a couple of oldest age groups, their teams are weak and getting weaker. The writing is on the wall.
False, U9-U11 is strong/solid at Academy and Bridge levels.
