For those who do enjoy a more sensationalized take on Orthodox Jews, you would probably like the series A Touch Away. It's one 8-episode season, available on Amazon Prime. Orthodox girl falls in love with secular boy, but backward oppressive Orthodox society stands in their way. Its depiction of Orthodoxy is rather trite. But it does a nice job depicting the challenges that Soviet Jews faced when they arrived in Israel and the two young leads are appealing.
I think that the whole point of Shtisel is that it has the denationalization removed and that alone provides some serenity to the viewer.. That is why this shows despite seemingly to be slow and boring is so refreshing and so calming to the mind.. because we are being bombarded by action and constant aggressiveness of the news of the world.. this show is removed from all this.
PP. I agree with you and I think a large portion of the Shtisel fan base is like you. But there is also a large portion that just likes any opportunity to gawk at the "exotic," here being Chasidic or ultra-Orthodox Jews and doesn't care about accuracy in terms of details of dress or customs or even remotely plausible dialogue. I think those people will like A Touch Away.
