What I think is weird is that these anti-union posters usually consider themselves pro-market forces and pro-democracy, but their position is inconsistent with that because: 1) unions are the most democratic institution out there. The leaders are elected by direct vote of the members and are up for re-election regularly. Having representation gives workers a voice in the conditions of their lives, which is what democracy is all about. 2) The free market has already told us that teachers are under compensated for the work they perform. How do we know this? Because the school districts are always short staffed and have trouble retaining teachers. This is economics 101 -- if your workers keep leaving, it's because their comp package is not good enough to make up for the conditions/demands.
Anti-union groups and other "conservative" groups use this and other popular forums as a propaganda outlet. I wish someone would moderate dcum. If they did, people would quickly see that 90% of these posts come from the same person or a couple of people.
Jeff *has* checked these kinds of claims and found them to be false. I've been accused of being a right wing propogandist before (maybe by you!) but really I'm just a mom who notices the nonsense happening in schools during the pandemic.
Conservative? Conservative!!!! I am as blue/democrat/liberal/progressive as a human being can be! I am anti police unions, as well. I am anti all public-employee unions. This does NOT make me anti union. I am very pro-union. But the difference with most unions and with a public employee union is that a public employee union is controlled by a publicly voted board and the union controls all the money and so controls these elections and there is NO ONE actually representing the public here. I would be 100% pro STUDENT or PARENT union -- those are the people being quashed in this current system who need a union to get a say. Teachers (and police) do not need a union. The public needs a union. Teachers (and police) have uncontrolled power and it needs to be stopped. If you care about human rights, student rights. minority rights, people rights, you need to be anti teacher (and police) unions.
