Since I’m a lawyer who bills by the hour I’m a little self conscious about this. I don’t want my clients to wonder if they’re paying too much. I do have a 2ct emerald but I think emeralds are a little more subtle even when they’re big?
I think that having a larger emerald, sapphire or colored stone is more subtle than an equivalent size diamond. Also for colored stones, they are usually cut with more depth to maximize their color and ensure that it looks even- if they are cut too shallow you will get a "window" where the color is lighter and it doesn't look nice. So, they tend to sound bigger by carat weight but the measurements of how they appear from above would correspond to a lower carat weight diamond. I have a 2.5 carat emerald sapphire that measures smaller for length and width than a 2.5 carat diamond would because it has a deep cut to ensure that the color looks nice and even. Probably looks size-wise more like a 1.5 carat diamond would.
