One has to wonder what covid has done to everyone. We have all gone crazy. A bunch of adult women are fighting on facebook on whether its acceptable to be blocked by another person. I'm o gives two sh***. I rarely comment on AEM - Like many, I'm trying to navigate this pandemic the best I can and I don't agree with either of the extremes represented in AEM. I see the merits of both arguments (keeping schools closed and opening them). Though I do feel that if the country/state really cared about kids education, we would push to keep everything closed EXCEPT the schools. Or at the very least have the restaurants, bars closed and retail stores closed. Then have a robust paycheck protection program + UBI to combat the lost income. Anyhow, for some reason, I got blocked by someone on AEM even though the most I do is like a post that I agree with. I didn't post some long rant about being blocked and certainly being blocked didn't affect AEM as a forum of debate.
During some contentious debate about a year ago, one very frequent poster said something like “if you ‘liked’ any of these comments, rest assured that it has been noted.” Given the frequent nastiness and score keeping on AEM, it doesn’t surprise me that people block others over things from mere differences of opinion to actual verbal attacks. If an AEM member *truly* wants open, civil discourse, then she needs to be speaking up when those verbal attacks and veiled threats happen, and to be civil herself. That’s the way to prevent wide scale blocking, not engaging in guerrilla tactics and then complaining to the group when someone blocks you.
honestly, sometimes people just hit the wrong button as well. I just noticed that I had a couple of people blocked. no idea why, so I can only assume I accidently hit something.
