OP, From another DCPS teacher. Don't speak for me; what the union has done is a travesty. Every time I leave my house I am taking a risk and until there is a vaccine it will never be safe. The union's kool-aid is poisonous.
Then leave, oh wait you stay for the bonus don't you? F*ckin hypocrite. Work at a charter school.
Wait... I have been a union member since the beginning of this school year. When do I get my first bonus? What I learned when I went for work at DCPS is that I am a union member even if I do not join (pay dues.) Because I benefit from collective bargaining I pay dues. Otherwise I would be a freeloader. I *loathe* the union and I am annoyed the school rep is chasing me around for my personal email so I get sent the propaganda that has my colleagues crying during staff meetings like going back to in person teaching is a death sentence. The union isn't listening to my or hearing my voice so why should stand behind theirs?
You actually have to be highly effective to get the bonus. It’s interesting that DCPS actually forces you to join the union if you want to be rewarded for being an excellent teacher. I think we’d have less union members if not for this fact. Waste of money every month!!!!
