The city and metro area are further from the mountains than many people think. The city and its immediate environs are flat, ugly, choked by sprawl and traffic, and challenged by poor air quality. Denver itself has a large homeless population, and the issue of homelessness has only gotten worse over time. Boulder is nicer but outrageously expensive and out of reach for most people.[/quote]
