fingers crossed the UVa students will act more responsibly than the Radford and JMU kids did. This will be an interesting test of the character of the students admitted to these schools. I suspect UVa will do better, like the W&M kids.
Let's hope, but this may become more of a case of how long the inevitable can be postponed.
This is exactly it. Once all those kids are on campus, they will have the same result. Too funny that the PP actually thinks the “character” of the students will somehow be different.
I stand by that comment. We shall see.
I don't believe the character of the students is significantly different between UVA and JMU. I believe JMU seems to have made some surprising errors in terms of planning. To not require a negative test from students before they arrive is ludicrous. It also seems (based on the images from that class with the kids sitting on the floor) that JMU also did a poor job of planning the classes. You can't just pull out the desks. You have to reduce the number of people enrolled in that class. As for "once those kids are on campus, they will have the same result"... that doesn't seem to be the case. Almost all of the outbreaks at colleges have been tied to off campus gatherings. If they don't require a negative test of those students, and they aren't serious about enforcement, THAT will be the issue. Not the kids on campus. UVA has required testing, and they do seem to be serious about enforcement, even off campus. Again, I'm not trying to bash JMU. I was impressed by the school when we did campus visit and folks who are alum seem to love it, so it's really unfortunate that they seem to be an outlier compared to some of the other VA state schools. We take DS to Charlottesville tomorrow. I hope all goes well for him and everyone in the community.
