Just because we find this cringeworthy and insulting, that doesn't mean we have never seen it as part of a Holy Service. And FWIW - I'm conservative, attend church every Sunday (online the last 3 months), and no church I have been part of has ever done this. Was it part of a Holy Week sermon? Sure.
