One can take leave without using their sick days.  Smart teachers do this because they know after the baby comes, if they choose to go back to work, they're going to need those sick days.  I took all of my sick days when I had my baby because I knew I wasn't going back for many years and when I did, that I would not return to the same district.  I had 10 weeks worth of pay when I went on maternity leave because of that.  [/quote]
