I think a lot of PPs are [b]not[/b] going back and looking at this post above by the OP. It's pretty vital information for addressing OP's question rather than just opining about military service in general.

The DS is not focused on some particular career path right now, nor is he focused on the military because he sees it as public service and he's devoted to public service, nor is he a "true believer" in the military mission. He's a teenager who thinks it "sounds like a cool adventure."

All the more reason for him to finish college FIRST and see how he truly feels after that, when he's four years more mature. My money would be on his not being interested after four years away at college mostly doing his own independent thing. If he is still interested at that time, he'll be a better bet to commit and stick with the military than he probably is as a teenager just seeing it as a cool adventure.[/quote]
