If you think any club in the country isnt about the money first and soccer second you are dreaming. Ecnl, da, whatever. This is not charity.
It's pretty clear that DA isn't all about the money, given that clubs are so willing to take the ECNL $$ bait and run when they aren't making the bottom line work out. This is working against our best interest in terms of soccer quality in the US, but it's great for lining the pockets of the clubs involved. Enjoy your well funded dilution.
GDA inception initiated the dilution problem by duplicating an established league more or less. Interestingly enough, it's the top flight prospects and NT's (which should be GDA targets) that get damaged the most by the dilution that has ensued. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. The college ranks that ECNL is aimed at are mostly unaffected. The GDA might be somewhat altruistic in its plan, but the clubs that execute it are not. Nobody can sustain continuous profit hits or outright losses year after year. Come back in a year or two and tell us how many are left and what the fee structures look like. If you want that training plan, you'll have to pay for it Karen.
