The President does not decide who gets investigated, not in the U.S., and even less so in another country. The worst abuses of power that any President can do is to use the power and authority of the State Department, the Department of Defense, and Department of Justice for his own personal or political interests. Trump corrupted all three agencies whose nonpartisan independence is essential to maintaining any confidence that those powerful agencies are using their power appropriately and honorably.

If there were something to investigate about the Bidens, Trump's phone call demand for an investigation and his using military assistance to demand an investigation from Ukraine, would nullify any investigation that resulted as a political attack rather than a legitimate investigation.

Trump needs to be removed from office especially because he will never stop demanding that the most powerful agencies of the U.S. government are supposed to act as his personal and political agents. He will never understand that he is not entitled to use the government as his very own police state. [/quote]

Ah, but it was perfectly OK for Vice President Biden to withhold a billion dollars in loan guarantees to Ukraine unless they fired a prosecutor. He proudly bragged about it at a conference in 2018! Now look back at your line about using the power of the state for personal or political gain, and please explain why this shouldn’t apply to Biden. [/quote]

This has been refuted at least a hundred times on here. But here it is one more time. Shokin was corrupt and was using his office for his own personal and political gain. The U.S., the EU, the IMF all were saying that they would halt aid to Ukraine if they did not take action against corruption. Biden was there in December and delivered his supposed "ultimatum," but Shokin was not removed at that time. Then Christine Lagarde of IMF called for Shokin's removal in February. Finally in April, the Ukrainian parliament voted by a large margin to remove Shokin. Biden was not demanding that Ukraine undertake a corrupt political investigation. He was demanding, in accordance with bipartisan U.S. policy, that Ukraine stop making corrupt political investigations and start using its resources to fight fraud and corruption rather than adding to it. There is nothing inappropriate in what Biden did. It was U.S. policy, not personal or political interference. But I know that you are incapable of understanding the difference between promoting corruption, which Trump did, and opposing corruption, which is what Biden did.   [/quote]
