OP here. Here are the pics of the units. One I really want - https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/4912-N-Lincoln-Ave-401-Chicago-IL-60625/2094842961_zpid/ One we agreed on -https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/2745-W-Lawrence-Ave-2E-Chicago-IL-60625/2085435426_zpid/ One he wants - https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/2745-W-Lawrence-Ave-3E-Chicago-IL-60625/2085435446_zpid/ https://www.redfin.com/IL/Chicago/2745-W-Lawrence-Ave-60625/unit-2E/home/160676442

$499k for the one you agreed on. Two flights of 8 stairs / 16 stairs total each way. $770K for the one you want. Is there some other factor (aside from an elevator) to justify the higher cost? Have you looked at more condos in the $500K range that may have an elevator? Many suggestions were researched and posted for you by other posters. My advice remains the same. Go with what you both agreed to, do not go cheaper for more stairs and a loft you won’t use. Steps will Be miserable, but 16 stairs are easier to sell than 32 stairs each way. If you can find everything with an elevator in the price range, get it. Again, I like the one you agree on for $499K, if you’re already doing steps, go with it. It’s your house. You both agree on it. https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/2745-W-Lawrence-Ave-2E-Chicago-IL-60625/2085435426_zpid/
OP here. The highest priced one has an elevator, a rooftop deck ( he will use it), and attached heated parking. I think it’s well worth the price for those three things. The stairs aren’t terrible in the one we agreed on, but I know it will get hard with 1-2 kids, a stroller, diaper bag, etc. We have not found anything comparable in that price range, but we can afford the most expensive one. We live in an elevator building now.
