HS programs are still reviewed at respective schools..not at Central office. Kids can still get into multiple schools.
Not this year. They will be reviewed by the central office. This is the first year.
The only help I gave DD on the test was to remind her not to leak anywhere in the essay her Asian heritage. And she rolled her eyes like I was so ignorant thinking she didn't know that already. Pretty funny, huh?
Really, truly, they cannot legally take race into account. Yes they can take socioeconomic status and cohort and neighborhood and all that, but they truly cannot take race.
Of course MCPS will not reject a student citing based on her race, but let's not fool ourselves that the primary purpose of the maget "reformation" is not to reduce the representation of Asian students. It's been done successfully in elementary and middle school magnet programs. One can always argue that smarter students of other races are discovered under the new system, thus less spots for Asian students. but why risk? especially when MCPS tried so hard to hide what exactly were used for selection.
