Not only did she have her parents’ circle to tap into, but her own; other rich NYC kids with their own connected parents. The concept for Girls was a proven one- most modern generations have their version of a Friends type series or film that taps into pop culture and feels new, even if it really isn’t. She was able to add edgier elements thanks to HBO hosting the series.

+1.  Her parents are super-connected and loaded. As are the parents of some of her other friends who starred in Girls-Allison Williams (daughter of Brian Williams from NBC nightly news), Jemima Kirke (daughter of musician Simon Kirke and granddaughter of a billionaire tycoon),  Zosia Mamet (David Mamet's daughter), etc. She spent her childhood hobnobbing with famous artists, directors, critics, etc. and going to school with her kids.

All of the main female actors in Girls came from super-connected and loaded families.[/quote]
