I know, right? I'm in DC and adopted a cat through 4paws a few years ago and I had to fill out paperwork including an essay on why we wanted a cat, phone interviews, and they even did a phone interview with our vet. We had to sign all kinds of promises about how we would treat the cat (not let it outside, not declaw it, and if we ever needed to not be its family we had to give it back to them), and we had to pay a fee to offset the cost of neutering and supplies. Super cumbersome considering I've cared for cats my whole life, but I get that they have the animals' best interest in mind. I can't imagine that with all the awful people who scoop up stray or shelter animals for horrible reasons there would still exist any legit organization who would let people just take cats home with them like party favors![/quote]
