The reigning champ and professional sports gambler claimed his 31st victory on "Jeopardy!" Thursday in dominating fashion, with a winning score of $58,612.

Holzhauer achieved another runaway win, securing his victory by the end of Double Jeopardy.

Holzhauer extended the gap between his competitors – Megan the librarian and Rob the physician –  during Final Jeopardy Thursday as the only contestant answer a question about "National Anthems" correctly.

The Final Jeopardy riddle: "Its anthem was adopted in 1947 to replace one by Joseph Haydn that had been tainted by association with Nazis."

Holzhauer correctly responded, "What is Austria?"

Megan and Rob finished with $7,599 and $1, respectively.

Thursday's haul brings Holzhauer's total on the popular game show to a whopping $2,382,583, less than $150,000 away from Ken Jennings' all-time "Jeopardy!" total of $2,520,700, a record for non-tournament play.

Holzhauer could pass Jennings in a matter of days if his streak continues, by using his aggressive strategy of targeting higher-valued clues first and wagering big on Daily Doubles. On April 17, he won $131,127, a single-day record for the quiz show.

Jennings and Holzhauer are the only two "Jeopardy!" contestants to earn $2 million or more in regular, non-tournament winnings, a barrier Holzhauer crossed in Friday's episode.

However, it has taken Holzhauer fewer than half the number of episodes to rack up the prize money, a feat that Jennings called "astounding."

Despite inching closer to the Jennings' all-time winning record, Holzhauer's 31 victories still pale next to Jennings' record 74 wins.
