It really comes down to the quality of the admitted students. There was pretty much an arms race on lowering acceptance rates driven by USNews (which has now dropped it) causing schools to take actions to drive up the denominator. UVA's acceptance rate actually breaks down to 36% in-state and 19% OOS. The 36% may sound high, but there is a lot of self-selection.[/quote]
