The 20,000 laws on the books most likely address your issues above.  As for "universal background checks" one has to balance state rights with the over-reach of the federal government which the founders saw as the biggest impediment at the beginning of this country.[/quote]

No, that hasn't already been addressed by law and the problem with leaving it up to states' rights is that the state with the weakest laws will be the weak link.  That's why stiff gun control laws in Chicago don't work, because neighboring Indiana has very lax gun laws and you can still buy a gun there from a private seller at a gun show with zero paperwork or background check.  States' rights is what causes the problem.[/quote]
