I plan to retire at 62 and to tell people that I am "consulting" part-time until I am around 67, even though in reality I hope to be retired full-time.
Why lie?
PP here. I'm just making fun -- not terribly effectively, apparently -- of all the people who say they plan to do a little consulting after they leave full-time work but before they fully reitre. Yes, I'm sure some do, especially in a region like DC where people have skills that are in demand and there are many employers to potentially sell such skills to. But I also think that, in the case of some of these people, the idea that they are "consulting" is a way to sugar-coat an unwanted job loss or to persuade themselves that they are not quite put-out-pasture just yet.
