The Bethesda magazine just published an article and the students seem to agree that part of the problem is due to resources: “Northwood High junior Kaylah Tengeya said students at her school — with a minority-majority population and 75 percent of students eligible for free or reduced-price meal plans — are often at a disadvantage because teachers have fewer resources to help students.” I think adding more teachers, more resources for the students, and even the parents, would be better than bussing the students around.
I agree to an extent, but I still think it’s worth looking at boundaries to balance crowding. Case in point above- RCES is overcrowded while neighboring ESs are underenrolled. Some simple adjustments in the boundaries could balance them out without making students commute much further. Is anyone really suggesting Northwood students get bussed to the W schools? Heck I live in silver spring and I absolutely would not want that. There seems to be a lot of panic about “bussing” but I’m not sure how much of it is founded.
No. (Except when Northwood HS will be at the Woodward building while the Northwood building gets rebuilt.)
