Funny, I got free pre-K3 and 4 and it wasn’t income based and I’m in PG. 
pgcps operates 3 Montessori schools that you can lottery in at age 3.
They have several language immersion and many test in TAG/performing arts programs.
And almost everyone I know is willing to send their child to the local elem. it’s only at middle and high school where it gets dicey. Not saying that’s GREAT, but people act like “the schools” are the reason DC is more stable than PG when ...it’s obviously not.[/quote]

Be serious PP, the lottery for the free pre-k3 Montessori school is like 300 people long and they have 12 spots per year. There’s no comparison to universal pre-k3. Pre-k has like two openings. You were lucky, but your one data point does not refute the above comparison.[/quote]

MARYLAND does not have universal PreK (yet, I think we will soon). And while I know there are a handful of states that offer universal PreK4, I am not aware of any other state that offers universal PreK 3.
So, clearly, there is no comparison to DC. Anywhere. You win this “competition” if that makes you happy. If that’s important to you, by all means, live in brookland.

My point - if you read my post- was to respond to PP’s misconception that there are no lottery or test in schools in PG generally. Another pp was similarly confused by the county’s website and also unaware that these schools exist.

I mentioned the Montessori programs but did not try to hide that there are only 3. They have expanded in recent years, a trend that I think will continue as the county population grows.

It was you DC boosters who run in here with your DATA and NUMBERS like I threatened your supremacy somehow by pointing out pp’s original inaccuracy.

Wow. And I'm probably your neighbor rather than a Brookland booster because I too, like the other PP, live in PG. I also have no desire to try to convince people to move here because of a rare chance of winning the lottery. There are lots of other reasons. I'd argue that Hyattsville has a really strong community for new parents. Almost all the people I know along the route 1 corridor have a refreshing lack of snark (or at least they do in person). The original poster said the Brooklyn wins for pre-K because anyone being honest would agree that's true. [/quote]

But that’s the thing- this defeatist attitude is so common in PG! We sell ourselves short. No one says these things about DC even though their schools are equally bad and you have a similarly poor chance at lotterying into a GOOD charter. And their public schools do not even have TAG programs. Just look at the pp who is fine with BRENTWOOD but “didn’t even consider PG.” ??[/quote]
