The main cause was probably that those Communist countries were strongly paternalistic. They did not fill their women's heads with feminist nonsense that blamed men for everything and increased female dissatisfaction. Instead, women were expected to play traditional roles. And so they did.
The idea is that, because women were more financially independent, they didn't trade sex for economic security and, therefore, weren't as inclined to put up with bad sex or relationships
Totally incorrect. The standard of living was lower in the USSR and GDR than in the West. Women had fewer options economically. Women in the West were free to feel, and express, their dissatisfaction with men. Women in the USSR and GDR were pretty much stuck.
What? That's nonsense. Blame the Communists for many things, but they generally did great in the women empowerment department way before the West.
Haha, no. Domestic violence occurs with astonishing regularity in Russia, and is perceived differently by men and women. And this is AFTER the fall of the USSR (when I lived there, people kept assuring me it was WORSE in Soviet days). Russian women are expected to have careers or full time jobs AND cook and clean and care for children AND look feminine and beautiful at all times (I have never seen so many women wearing high high heels than when I lived there, and they wore them on the school run, to do grocery shopping, pretty much everywhere). Russian men and women also have different attitudes toward infidelity than Americans. Russian women could have been grateful for the equality promised by the Communists, except that the existing gender roles meant that they were really expected to have two jobs, not just the official one granted by the state. It isn't much different today.
