We have largely been very happy with our MCPS public education experience. We left DC because we refuse to get involved with the degradation of public education. Could MCPS be better? Sure! But communities make up schools and families make-up communities and individuals make up families. I'd rather focus on building healthy individuals, families, and communities! By focusing on those areas then schools can improve. I can see on this board charter school proponents are trying to rally for the support of Hogan's charter school cronies.
Mcps counts on educated parents to make up for their increasing amount shortcomings. To supplement/tutor all the holes in the disparate k-8 curriculum, to provide additional subject matter through private extracurriculars and camps, to provide test prep for college entrance exams, and to counsel or hire counselors for college application coaching and processes. Without that they would be exposed for the inept admin and low standards they actually have. To turn around and say the “parents and community make the school district” is to have extremely low expectations of the school, teachers and administrators, and that you as a taxpayer and you as a parent, blindly accept that. No. It is unacceptable.
