I'd like to follow up on that one.  Comparing the way society treats gays and straights, it's clear that the only one it makes sense to choose is straight.  And there are plenty of examples of gays who choose to be straight (at least in public). It's not the same, though.     Homosexuality is most likely biological -- either genes or prenatal factors -- like exposure to the mother's androgens during pregnancy.

Pedophilia, on the other hand, is overwhelmingly psychosocial in origin, with very little evidence pointing to genetics or prenatal factors.   And abusive parenting and childhood sexual abuse, while having no impact on sexual orientation, are high risk factors for creating a pedophile.
